Alright, I'm getting desperate. I remember spending forever looking for this fic and never finding it months ago, then being distracted. Now I remember it, I'm falling back into the same frenzy of trying to find it, so I'm posting this bit again. I am looking for two stories that are very similar but I would be happy just to find one of them! Simply put, Buffy and Spike are working together in both. Buffy gets total amnesia, not just a few years but her whole life is gone, she can't remember anything. Spike is the one with her at the time or when she wakes up. He convinces her that they are married or newlyweds and they leave town before anyone could tell Buffy differently. I keep mixing up details so I won't put any more in there, but any fic with this premise I know I'd enjoy, whether Spike is being sweet and wonderful or a lascivious fiend. Please recognize it, somebody!
Maybe The Ballad of Randy and Joan? By Annie Sewell-Jennings. Well worth a read even if it's not quite the right one!
I get a little teary just thinking of it. :-)
Who Are You?, by zoegrace?
Oh--I just wanted to add, another Buffy-has-amnesia Spuffy story that's quite wonderful is Recognition, by Julbie. An imagining of Buffy's return after "The Gift," written in script format. I don't care for script format usually, but this one's really good. Probably PG.
I LOVE this fic! And I agree completely about the script format. I think this is the only fic in that format that I've ever really enjoyed and rec'd to others.
I second the rec for The Ballad of Randy and Joan, but there are a lot of amnesia fics out there. I hope you find the one you're searching for. :)
I think I know which fic you're looking for (at least one of them), but I'm drawing an absolute blank on the title and author. It's an older fic... and I can tell you it's not by Saber Shadowkitten, Lisa Drexel, Chelle Storey or Sandra S, but I'm pretty sure it's from that same era of fic writers (which is why I checked them first). I'll keep picking through the stuff I've got archived on my hard drive and see if I can track it down.
Saber Shadowkitten, Lisa Drexel, Chelle Storey or Sandra SAh, good times...:-)
Four of the greatest. It's sad that so few of the newer readers are aware of them--they're really missing something.
Where can we find them? I'd love to check them out.
Sabershadowkitten: http://www.sabershadowkat.com/buffy/btvs2.htmlI recommend 'The Game' on her Buffy/Spike page.http://www.sabershadowkat.com/opwof/opwof.htmlI recommend:Avalon's 'Love is Blind'Lynn's 'Secrets & Lies' and it's prequels - 'Hell on Wheels', 'Desperate Measures' and 'Reflections in the Light of Day'. (This is probably my favorite fic of all time.) This series is also known as 'The Chains Series'. I see so many other writers there that are worth checking out, but some of my favorite stories by them aren't linked. :-(shadowlass may be able to give you a lot more links, and makd is, IMHO, something of a fanfic historian. Sandra Schimmel, Lisa Y. Drexel (sometimes known as Lisay), Chelle, Saber Shadowkitten, and Lynn, also known as Lynx, mentioned below by Mary. Run, don't walk, to read Lynn's The Chains Series. One thing you have to keep in mind with all of these older stories, though, is that they were written during the second, third, or fourth seasons, and that's reflected in the characterization--especially Spike's, as he'd only appeared in a handful of episodes when a lot of this fic was written.Other amazing authors you might want to check out who no longer write in the fandom include Evenstar, kira-nerys, 1st Rabid, Miranda (scroll down), Ripe Wicked Plum, and Shoshana. These authors all wrote a little after the ones I linked to earlier, but are also terrific.I'd love to link you to some of the wonderful old archives that hosted these and many other classic Spuffy authors, but one by one they've all gone offline. :(
Rabid told me just this morning that she's toying with the idea of finishing one of her Spuffy WIPs, Ichnobate. This would be after she finishes a couple of Dr. Who fics. I beta'd for Rabid for awhile and still describe her as one of the best writers for doing action scenes I've ever come across in fandom. And, oh man, Miranda! One of my very favorites. Her stories read like eps and she used the entire cast so, so well. And, oh, RWP's Castaway and, and, and...I so need to re-read me some Classic Buffy/Spike.
Rabid told me just this morning that she's toying with the idea of finishing one of her Spuffy WIPs, Ichnobate.***GASP!***Is it true?!? I must remember to begin obsessively checking her site for updates again...
LOL. Can't say how far it will go, and when she'll get to it (she says it's almost done though), but we can live in hope, can't we?? :-)
Rabid does a great Spike. And Zero! She ran an awesome James Marsters site, too.You know what I've always wondered about? Back in 2001 or 2002 Jericho mentioned on her website that she would be posting the last chapter of "Haunt of the House" after the weekend...and never posted another word about it, as far as I can tell. I understand not having the inspiration/time/inclination to finish a WIP, but if you're pretty much done with the last chapter...wha?
And VicNoir--I can't believe I didn't mention her....
I was trying to remember the name of 'that haunted house fic by Tracy or someone' (the memory - it's like a steel trap, I tell you!). That was a great story. And that is weird - that she said she was posting the end and then was never heard from again. Huh.
"...Rabid told me just this morning that she's toying with the idea of finishing one of her Spuffy WIPs, Ichnobate..."Another one I give lots to see 1st Rabid finish (and sorry, maybe I'm way demented...!) is 'Sweet Spot (AU)'...just imagining Spike in short skirts & heels...hey, it's a refreshing switch-up in a land where the usual is m/m slash, or a bit of f/f, the odd three-way, a 'spring-autumn' a la' Lolita-ish tale (or the recent trend in formerly-sweet, young fellas, and thank Gawd for Twinlets/-nings! I loved the sex-change-play at the demon-bordello between Spike & Buffy; complete w/him leading her down that garden path to sin, and her as usual fluttering her sensibilities! Also, S/He-Spike riding off on the bike, tho' as usual party to a backfired plan...having gotten pregnant by HE-Buffy...and she in the dark about it...tho' S/He-Spike does raise a little hell in LA, tho' I dunno if there's enuff soap in LA to wash the image of S/He-Spike sleeping w/Wes outta my eyes & brain!!! And why do I feel like (if further was written) this could prove too much, & prove the Great Poof to be Poofier! Anybody else wanna plea Rabid to finish this one too for us deviants?~~K.~~~~email@example.com
And the story I was thinking of that fit o_bugger's description was by Shoshanna! (Although possibly a different Shoshanna.) It's "Honeymoon in Vegas".I'd also add another thing for people to keep in mind if they're reading these older stories for the first time: some of them were written at a time when not only did we not know as much about the characters, we also didn't know as much about the universe... so fanfic writers would make up a lot of stuff or borrow from various other vampire mythos in order to fill in the blanks (which doesn't mean they're not worth reading, just that they'll be a bit different). All the ones you've recommended are great... although I'd add hlynn's fic, Elizabeth's "Achilles Heel" (which, sadly, no longer appears to be online anywhere... if anyone is interested, I have a copy I could share) and Whitewolf Alpha's "Second Chances" and "Choices" (also apparently gone from the net, but I can also share).
I would love anything you would send, not only is this site the most amazing place with die hard spuffy shippers, but it is almost like a daily rec site. I have to read everything talked about!!! Thanks Kelly firstname.lastname@example.org
Sorry but that isn't the fic.
oh my gosh, I've been looking all over for a copy of Elizabeth's Achilles Heel! I would soooo adore you if I could get a copy.
I could do that for you! Where would you like me to send it?
my email is email@example.com are awesome.
I've been going through the old rec posts looking for something new to read and would love it if you could send them to me if you still have them. I hope you don't mind me asking after all this time. Thank you so much! :)firstname.lastname@example.org
*waves*I remembered you posting here / that I've read something about Elizabeth's "Achilles Heel". I found a link now, it's still on-line:http://bbfarchive.dbfandom.com/archive/0/achillesheel.htmlIs that the story you're talking of? The site is still there, I saw a link to the WBM more down here.*edit* Whitewolf AlphaFound one link that functions - sadly the other is blocked.Title: Choices by White Wolf http://web.archive.org/web/20030128082120/thedarkzone.org/bsdiaries/choices.htmlCensor: PG-13 Updated: 7-20-01 Summary: Everybody has to deal with repercussions. I believe found via the WayBack Machine???http://web.archive.org/web/20031215174206/randomthought.addr.com/redemptionista/index2.htmlor @ LJ:http://community.livejournal.com/dl_archive/Are these the ones???Hope it helps...~~K.~~~~fyreburned~~
We musn't forget Lynne either, of course! :-)I recommended (well raved about, but who's keeping track) Secrets and Lies to a friend once and she couldn't get into it because she thought the characterizations were so off. She had had problems with some of Saber's stuff prior to that for the same reason. Maybe for people who came into the fandom later, when Spike was a more established character and we knew more of his history, those early stories seem like they come from a different fandom altogether. If they do, it's a fandom I still love and miss. :-)
Is Lisa Drexel's stuff still online somewhere that you know of?
Check out above! Lisa's hard to keep track of, because she had a number of sites and most of them are gone know. If I were you I'd grab her stuff and burn it to a CD before this site goes poof.I actually ran into her on a Hermione/Draco Yahoo group (don't judge me!) three or four years ago. She didn't seem opposed to writing more Spuffy, just without the drive to do it.
Of course, here you go!http://sunnyhellhaven.iwebland.com/buffy.htmlBut I don't know whether all her stuff is there or not
Thanks! I think I'll follow shadowlass's advice and get some of these old fics burned to disc! :-)
I've seen that Fenchurche told you that Elizabeth's "Achille's heel" can't be found anymore on the web... but I found it!! (I looked for it 2 months ago, and it wasn't easy). The link:http://web.archive.org/web/20060526095919/s8219.net/bbfarchive/archive/0/achillesheel.html And if you want to check out what's left of The Better Buffy Fiction Archive:http://web.archive.org/web/20070103175529/s8219.net/bbfarchive/archive/quicksearch.html
Has this last site been taken down now? That link isn't working for me.
Ok, that's strange: the link from my post really doesn't work, but the one in my favorites does, even though thet are exactly the same!Try this: put this url http://s8219.net/bbfarchive/cgi-bin/search.cgi? on the wayback machine (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php), then click on the pages from 2006, then on "Stories". Those pages should work - or maybe my pc has them in memory so they work just for me...I don't know, but I hope it helps.
http://bbfarchive.dbfandom.com/Got the link to it today; it's still there (posting the link in case you haven't found it yet).
